Never Too Late to Love. That was the theme of Norwalk Public School's Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Monday morning at West Rocks Middle School.

"The only way things are going to change is if we all proclaim in our hearts and in our minds, that everyday is Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Day, and that we live according to how his legacy tells us to live," said Mayor Harry Rilling.

Dr. Lynne Moore, principal of West Rocks Middle School said "We are here to become stronger members of the human race. We can give a little of ourselves each day. Dr. King once said, "Greatness is determined by service."

During the program, students were applauded for taking pledges of non violence at West Rocks and Ponus Ridge Middle Schools, and their commitment to public service, with 14 high school students receiving Student Service Awards.

Brien McMahon senior Edwin Owolo was one of the students recognized. "It more about living and carrying out the dream he [Dr. King] left behind and by giving back to the community everyday, I'm able to live out this dream."

Malcolm London served as the event's keynote speaker, engaging the audience in a conversation about race and Dr. King's legacy through poetry.

"The Mayor said outright that everyday should be MLK Day and I agree with that. I think everyday we should be living in the ways Dr. King did, but also in the ways people every single day lead us like the young people honored today," said London.
