Norwalk and Danbury Police officers swapped their police cars for ice skates Sunday afternoon to raise awareness about child abuse.

Kari Pesavento, Director of Children's Connection said, "child abuse is an issue that nobody wants to talk about and unfortunately 1 in 7 is abused as a child. That number is outrageously high and in lower Fairfield County, it's an issue that nobody ever wants to admit happens here."

Detective Tim Marquis of the Norwalk Police Department came up with the idea for Pucks for Prevention. "We figured they [Danbury] have a good team, we [Norwalk] have a good team so it would be a great time to come out and skate."

Children's Connection, a program of the Human Services Council works to investigate and treat cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse.

"It's so important to protect our children and do everything we can. The Human Services Council really does a lot of good deeds and services for the entire community. It's always important that we support our non-profits and help whomever in the community needs our help,"said Mayor Harry Rilling.

"Get the message out a little bit and show them that the police are here for good things. It's not just that they are here to get people in trouble. They are here to help and that's a really important message for kids to know. It shouldn't hurt to be a kid and that's what we are here to really make sure that families have an inexpensive place that they can come together and have fun together," added Pesavento.
