At this fundraising event making a certain kind of impact counts.

The Norwalk High School Bears Beating Cancer Club hosted their third annual Bear Flop competition Thursday afternoon.

"Well my whole body hurts," said sophomore Grace Bradley after the competition.

They say "no pain, no gain" and that gain was raising over $4,000 for the Whittingham Cancer Center.

Claire Rudden, co-president of NHS Bears Beating Cancer said, "It is really cool because it's Norwalk Hospital's Whittingham Cancer Center and it's Norwalk High School and we are raising money for the community. It's just exciting to see everyone show up and support it."

"It's a really good cause and we raised a lot of money. I wanted to help out and get involved,"said Bradley who took home the Bear Flop 2015 Student Championship trophy.

This year more faculty got involved as well as a Norwalk police officer, and they may have been more enthusiastic than some of the students.

Larry Anastasia, faculty advisor for NHS Bears Beating Cancer said, "It's important because it gives the kids something to do and the number of kids here at the school and really anywhere who have someone in their lives battling cancer or has even lost the battle, it's a lot. It gives some of those kids a chance to raise money and awareness and get out to do something fun."

"I just hope they keep it going," said Rudden who graduates this year. "When I presented it a few years ago, people looked a me and said 'a belly flop contest? You're crazy,' but it's something unique to Norwalk High School."

The NHS Bears Beating Cancer Annual St. Baldrick's head shaving event will take place in June.
