"We believe we are prepared as can possibly be under the circumstances," said Mayor Harry Rilling.

Norwalk is getting ready for the winter storm that is making it's way to Connecticut Monday afternoon.

Mayor Harry Rilling declared a snow emergency for the City that went into effect at noon.

"This means that the Maritime Garage and the Yankee Doodle Garage will be open for free parking so that people can get their cars off the street," said Mayor Rilling. "We're also asking people to stay home this evening and tomorrow and to stay warm."

Coastal flooding may also become an issue with snow.

Norwalk Fire Chief Denis McCarthy said, "A moderate storm surge for 5am tomorrow morning that typically brings nuisance flooding to the areas of Harbor View, Canfield Island and Water Street."

Mayor Rilling also emphasized the importance of keeping the roads clear throughout the storm.

"Park in your drives or the Maritime Garage or some where your cars will be off the roads. This will allow the DPW crews to clear the snow more quickly and more efficiently," said Mayor Rilling.

"We ask people to be patient. This has the potential to be  snow storm of epic proportions, something that maybe we haven't seen in the recent past. It's going to take some time to clear those roads and take time for crews to get around, " concluded Mayor Rilling.
