As local health and wellness initiatives continue to emerge along with technology, one hotel has already caught on to the trend with its own unique approach.

"They come in and they check into their room. You don't really stay anywhere else where you have a fitness center in your room with equipment."

Within the two months the EVEN Hotel has opened on Main Avenue, it has provided travelers with one-of-a-kind amenities, catered to health and fitness needs. The Norwalk location is the first in the nation opened by Intercontinental Hotels Group, geared toward helping travelers stay fit while on the road.

"There's great wellness amenities but it's also very important for us to have a personable guest experience, which we feel we became number one in Norwalk because of," said Schmitz. "So we are the highest rated hotel in the city, which is great."

After moving to Connecticut from California, EVEN's chief wellness officer Dieter Schmitz, says similar to many areas of Golden State, the city of Norwalk has been very receptive to the health and wellness concept.

"There's a lot of people that are driven as far as their workouts, whether it be; I see bike rides all over, or running or just eating well so anywhere EVEN hotel has to go, there has to be that Mecca for people who are into wellness, which there is here and there's always the research showing where we feel would be a great fit for a hotel where it will be accepted, and people would really thrive within the hotel."

EVEN opened on June 11th, where it kicked off its launch with a 15-mile community bike riding event. Schmitz says his goal is involve the hotel in more community events.

"That's something I want to keep going with even though we're open, is just to invite the community in and have activities, that's something we'll always keep doing."

EVEN's second hotel is opened in Rockville, Maryland, two weeks after it's Norwalk location grand opening. Schmitz says EVEN will soon expand to three other locations in New York.
