With the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year around the corner, the Human Services Council hopes to send kids to school with the supplies they need.

Tracey George, Program Coordinator at the Human Services Council said, "Kids need backpacks. We want to make sure we're getting what kids need. Backpacks, notebooks, pencils and pens. Any child going back to school is impaired if they don't have just those basic things."

Backpacks and supplies will be given out to three of the Norwalk Housing Authorities communities - Roodner Court, Meadow Gardens and Washington Village - during their annual Family Day.

"There are a lot of low-income residents that live in those areas and the presidents of the tenants associations are really passionate about getting what those kids need," added George.

HEI Hotels & Resorts is one of the corporations giving back Norwalk's children, donating 96 backpacks to the Human Services Council.

Will Henry, a member of the HEI Hotels Care Team said, "Backpacks are really important. If you don't have a backpack you can't carry your supplies and children don't have the means to get those things that they need. They don't have jobs in order to get the things they need."

"It makes us feel great that we can actually give back to the kids in Norwalk. The kids are important, they are our future," said Jackie Mychajluk, Executive Assistant at HEI Hotels & Resorts.

The first Family Day takes place at the Roodner Court Housing Complex on Saturday, August 2nd.

You can purchase backpacks to donate online at Target http://tinyurl.com/donatebackpacks using the following shipping address:
