A local Boy Scout is doing what it takes to clear out the hiking trail behind the Oak Hills Park Restaurant in Norwalk to make it more accessible for residents.

"I always came down to Oak Hills, but I didn't know about the nature trail until recently," said Bradley Carrano. "So I figured if I didn't know about it, a lot of people didn't know about it considering I live so close."

Thirty volunteers joined Bradley Carrano from Troop 2 (Rowayton) on Saturday, in clearing trees, pulling out weeds, and marking trees for his Eagle Scout project.

"The trail was here before, but it wasn't really known and it was really poorly marked, so we added a lot more markers," said Carrano.

"Basically, they were marked with somebody just spraying some green paint around and they've been over-grown," said the Scout's father Anthony Carrano. "They've already taken down trees that have been down there for years, so we're clearing the trail, killing any poison ivy, properly putting standard blazes through the whole trail and marking it on both sides so it gets more usage."

The location of the trail has been a concern among many residents who have been split on the decision to construct a golf driving range in its place.

"With them deciding not to locate the driving range here, the friends of Oak Hills Park want to make people aware of this hiking trail that's back here, so we figured the more usage, the less likely they are to build a driving range," said Carrano.

The trail is located behind Oak Hills Restaurant on the Green on Fillow Street and is open to the public.
