It was a celebration of the Arts at Fox Run Elementary School Friday morning. Eight artists from around Fairfield County joined students from kindergarten to fifth grade to demonstrate how art can come from a variety of creative influences.

"The idea is to let them know that if their strength is in creativity, that it's not marginalized," said event chairperson Sharon DeFala. "That it can be the center of their lives and it can mean something to the whole world. Every strength a kid has is an important strength."

The annual event is sponsored by local volunteers and the PTO. Students played the piano and violin while also learning how to create fun characters with food, knit and draw.

"The artists that come down here today all not only volunteer their time," said DeFala. "But they go into their own pockets. They have taken their art that they do in their lives, that they grew up doing and applied them into their adult lives."

"It give the children an opportunity to build skills," said Jodi Stevens of Melody Libonati at the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan. "Not just performing skills to be a performer but performing skills service all throughout life so at the conservatory, we're very much a part of building performance skills for life."

"Always pursue to keep your art going, and going forward," said Judy Katz of Judy Katz Designs. "So you must always go on and do art classes, and take art classes in school and just keep doing it because if you care enough and if you love it, you will make a go of it."
