It's a device that with a push of a button allows a patient to slide in and out of bed and onto a wheelchair safely and effortlessly.

"The conveyer will start drawing her up unto the bed and the chair will rotate to help feed her onto the bed."

Next Health displayed its latest development in patient transfer systems at its new open house facility on 300 Wilson Avenue in South Norwalk Thursday night.

The AgileLife "Zero-Lift" Patient Transfer System is the corporation's newest product designed to complete tasks normally done by two caregivers in about 90 seconds.

Ray Curatolo, President of NextHealth, says "We're on the forefront of technology for the Healthcare Industry. When you think about it over the years there have been devices such as wheelchairs and hospital beds, but the combination of the two to enable a patient to be transferred seamlessly without lifting them or basically without touching them is a significant advancement in technology and innovation."

NextHealth Head of Engineering David Becksterom says unlike a commonly used hoyer lift, which tends to result in both patient and caregiver back and neck injuries, the system's non-lift transfer slides onto the wheelchair, which could also be altered into a commode.

The AgileLife Patient Transfer System has been leased to individuals and several are currently being used in hospitals and nursing homes. For more information and a full demo on the system visit
