There were big flops, little flops, even Spider-Man flops as Norwalk High School students took the plunge for cancer research.

Brody O'Brien, member of the NHS Bears Beating Cancer Club said, "We had our second annual "Bear Flop" competition today. It's basically a belly flop contest to raise money for cancer."

The high school's Bears Beating Cancer Club hosted the second annual "Bear Flop" contest Thursday afternoon to raise funds for Norwalk Hospital's Whittingham Cancer Center.

Aidan Whalen, President of the Bears Beating Cancer Club said, "All the money we make goes directly to childhood cancer reasearch. I think it's really important that we help stop cancer at the early age so it doesn't effect people later in life."

"I think it's important to give back within the community because if there is somebody in the school that has cancer, obviously we are all a community so we can all help each other, " said Claire Rudden, member of Bears Beating Cancer.

Students and staff showed off their best moves to determine who would be crowned "Flop King 2014"

Larry Anastasia, faculty advisor for Bears Beating Cancer said, "I think on top of raising money for cancer, it gives the kids something to do outside of sports, outside of the band. We have great things going on here [at the High School] but the more extracurricular activities the better it is. On top of that we are giving money to a good cause."

Students said they hope the contest not only raises funds for cancer research but school spirit as well.

Jack Patterson, Vice-President of Bears Beating Cancer said, "It's important to do things like this in the school because school spirit is actually a really big thing and some of us feel that we don't have a lot of that here, so not only are we doing something for cancer, we get a whole bunch of student in one spot and we're belly flopping and it's a lot of fun."
