"This is what I really love to do. I love helping people. I want to be a conduit from the City of Norwalk to those up at the state level and beyond across the state," said Andy Garfunkel, Democratic Candidate for State Representative of the 142nd District, representing parts of Norwalk and New Canaan.
Andy Garfunkel received the nomination as a Democratic candidate for State Representative of the 142nd District Tuesday night.
"Andy is very conscious of what is happening in the community and he's that special person that will always get involved. He's the first to roll up his sleeves and do what is needed to be done. We should be so proud of someone with so much passion for our hometown," Nijole Potts, one for nominators for Garfunkel.
"This City has talented, responsible hard-working people. I know that we stand to make an outsized contribution to the continuing recovery in the state of Connecticut and to enrich the lives and livelihood of all of our citizens-residents and business owners, students and retirees, laboorers and business executives," said Garfunkel.
Prior to announcing his intentions to run, Garfunkel served as Town Clerk for 10 years from 2001-2011.
"I can't think of a better person to represent the 142nd District in Hartford than Andy Garfunkel. We have a chance this year to take back the 142nd and give us a stronger voice up at Hartford and Andy is the guy to do it.
Garfunkel will be running for the seat vacated by Republican Larry Cafero. Garfunkel will face the winner of an expected Republican primary between party-endorsed candidate Emily Wilson and challenger Fred Wilms. The primary will be held Aug. 12, and the general election is Nov. 4.
"We're going to knocking on doors and it is an uphill stuggle in district. For 30 years we have had a republican representing this district. It's time that we have a democrat," said Garfunkel.
