As the first bell rang at the start of a new school year, freshmen at Brien McMahon High School got some help from some friendly FROGs
Andrea Barros, a senior at Brien McMahon High School said, "Freshmen Orientation Guides. We're basically answering questions if they need help getting to their classes, because on the first day you are nervous so you want that assistance to get you through the hallways. It's kind of intimidating."
The Freshmen Orientation Guides who are members of the Center for Youth Leadership - were on hand to help incoming freshmen throughout the day before the upper classmen arrive on Thursday.
Nathaly Hernandez, a sophomore at Brien McMahon said "I actually think this is super helpful. Right when I came in last year, I saw them [FROGs] and said I definitely want to do that because I see how helpful it is to just help them and answer any questions they have."
"Instead of saying "Do you know where you are going, I ask what is your schedule or where is your class." Then they show me [their schedule]. They are shy, they don't know where they are going." said Erika Brown, a senior at Brien McMahon.
The FROGs say being able to help the freshmen is a way of giving back after remembering what is was like their first day at Brien McMahon.
"They helped me out a lot and made me more open to people and I met a lot more people that way. They showed me other FROGs and I made friends with them." said Tyler Desances, a senior at Brien McMahon.
Alli Ganim, a senior at Brien McMahon said "At first, I think that the freshmen they don't think they really need the FROGs but then they realize "where is everything?" "I have no idea where things are" so you really give them a helping hand."
